Ragnarok Battle Grounds - Tierra George

Episode 12.0 Satan Morroc in Philippine Ragnarok Online (pRO) brings to life the feature on Battle Grounds. The Battle Grounds is like the old feature Player versus Player (PvP) but with a War of Emperium (WoE) setting in which damages are reduced and there are also restricted skills like Body Relocation, Leap and others. For more info about battle grounds you can refer to pROsite.

How to get there:

First off you should locate Maroll the Battle Recruiter. She is located on 4 towns around Midgard. On my print screen you can see Maroll located at the left of the Kafra in Geffen. The Kafra I am referring to is located at the lower mid of Geffen.

Then she will tell you about the war of the two princes. Eventually she'll ask you if you want to join the battle or not.

If you have decided to join then she will teleport you to the Battle Grounds area. The spot that I am standing at is also the spawn of players after each battle in the Battle grounds.

There are essential NPCs that could be found here. The Kafra Staff for storage purposes. Above the Kafra is a Teleporter which will bring you back to the town. The town that she'll be teleporting you is the same as where you have been recruited. For example, you have entered the Battle Grounds at Prontera when you decided to teleport back the Teleporter will bring you to Prontera.

To start the battle grounds you must choose which side are you going to join. The upper part of the arena belongs to the Guillaume Army while the lower part of the arena belongs to Croix Army. Currently pRO has two terrains namely Tierra Gorge and Flavius. Most of the players preferred the Tierra Gorge because of its fast pace as compared to Flavius. And from my experience it doesn’t matter which army you will join as long as you win and earn badges.

One faction in the battle grounds is composed of 19 players. All in all 38 players will compose one game in Battle Grounds. On the pub says 20/20 in which 19 are players and the other one is the NPC Recruiter.

When you rotate your camera view you could also see the opposing faction but only those who are near the portal.

How To Play:

The battle on Tierra George starts when both teams spawns on their home base which is a ship. Every player starts rushing towards the center of the map. On a side note, even if you don’t have a party you could still see the hp bar on all of your teammates. Party is still needed in battle grounds if you want to have party buffs such as Magnificat, Angelus, Devotion and others.

This explains why there is a war between the factions.

As I said earlier, everybody is rushing towards the center in order to break the Neutrality Flag. This will give the team an advantage to summon the guardians to aid them in victory. By the way, all damages to the Flag is 1 and it’s immune to magic. The High Wizard’s Storm Gust is an efficient skill used to eliminate breakers from the opposing team.

When the flag is successfully been captured. The guardians will appear and will help the team who has the last hit on the flag. You can lure the guardians to the direction you like. When you stop moving the guardian will rally to the next team mate or to your enemies. When your team mate is moving, the guardian will follow that team mate but by default it will follow an opponent and tries to kill it.

The guardian following me is an enemy guardian. I am trying to lure that guardian towards the mountains. I always lure enemy guardians to nowhere so that the opponent team will not be able to maximize the strength of the guardians. There are some cases that Soul Linkers which buffs the guardians with Eske to increase their attack power. A guardian is so strong that it could wipe out your team easily. If you’re wondering why that guardian missed, I used tanking gears, auto guard and some feeling of luck. Haha.

Whenever you die you will spawn into this room. Just wait until you will be respawning again. When you respawn to the battle terrain both hp and sp will be fully restored so buff all you want before you will be automatically respawn. Sometimes there's a bug where in you will not be respawned. If that happens just wait for the next wave of spawn. When you spawn you will be spawning to your respective ships.

Your mini map will also tell you where your team mates are. Since I’m with Guillaume, the upper group of squares are my team mates who defends our Food Depot. The one on the extreme left is a team mate who died and waiting to respawn. The one in the middle defends the neutral flag while the group on the lower part attacks the Food Depot of the enemy. The ends when one of the Food Depot has been destroyed. Whoever breaks the Food Depot first, that team wins.

Just an addition, The ship for the Guillaume troops is located on the upper right of the map while the ship for the Croix troops is located on the lower right of the map.

Here is a shot in which my team mates are breaking the enemy Food Depot. The guardians are of big help dishing out enemies. They could sense hidden enemies such as Cloaked Asassins Cross.

Here is a shot on our Food Depot where in we are trying to defend it. All enemies have a crossed sword above their head so you will not mistakenly treat them as an ally.

There are also barricades in the map in which both sides didn’t bother to break. Two barricades are used for protection for Food Depots. One is located below the Guillame Food Depot and the other is located above the Croix Food Depot.

Battle Ground Tips:

Lure the guardians to the enemy base as soon as you have break the Neutral Flag. If possible leave the Archer Guardian in the middle for protection against the opposing enemy who tries to steal the Neutral Flag. In case your team does not get the Neutral Flag, lure the Sword Guardians to the mountains and see to it that there are no enemies following you. Guardians in the mountains are just like not having the Neutral Flag advantage.

When the enemy defense is tight and you have the neutral advantage, lure both sword guardians to the enemy base. Let the guardian do the killing. But watch out for the tanks who will lure the guardians away from the food depot. You might end up a guardian on the mountains.

Even if you are not built for breaking, help in breaking besides all damage to the Food Depot is reduced to 1. Players with a high attack speed has the advantage on this map.

Spawn killing is the ultimate way in ensuring victory. Having a High Wizard, which continually storms the enemy spawn area with spells is the key in spawn killing. Having a devotion type Paladin or any support and a Guardian will ensure survival and effective spawn killing. Let the High Wizard do the magic on the ship of the opposing team and all freshly spawn enemies will return to their spawn point again. Other Spawn killing party includes Minstrel/Bard for Bragi’s Poem, a High Priest/Priest and Professor/Sage.

Because of the popularity of Battle Grounds, they have added a re-enter delay for all players. This means that you could not enter the Battle Grounds for a certain period to give way to other players to enter the game. The re-enter time varies so just try to spam enter. As they say patience is a virtue.

Rewards:

Every Battle Ground game gives you badges. If you win in Tierra Gorge you will be given 3 Bravery Badges and 1 Bravery Badge if you lose. Flavius on the other hand gives you 9 Valor Badges for winning and 3 Valor Badges for losing. These badges could be exchanged with Weapons, Armor, Muffler, Shoes and Accessories.

Erundek, the NPC in blue coat, is the rewards exchanger. There is also an option to see the catalog of items that could be exchanged with the badges that you have.

As for me, my target is the battle grounds accessory for swordsman. It costs me 500 Bravery Badges in exchange for 1 Medal of Honor. The accessory is really worth it since it boost a lot of my sub stats.

Side notes: The events and screenshots posted has been taken last February 2009.
