Nidhoggur’s Nest

Overview:
Episode 13.2 made our adventures exciting again with the addition of a new instance dungeon called Nidhoggur’s Nest. The dungeon found in the New World features two levels of mazes and a boss room that houses the dreaded Nidhoggur’s Shadow. Nidhoggur’s Shadow is said to have resided on the roots of Yggdrasil tree devouring the nutrients from the roots. The Lapine tribe at the west part of Midcamp is seeking for the help of adventurers to stop Nidhoggur’s Shadow from draining life out of the Yggdrasil tree.

Requirements:
Finish the long prerequisite quests in the New World listed below. The quest guides can be viewed at iROwiki site labeled as New World.

  • Onward to the New World Quest
  • New Surroundings
  • Attitude to the New World
  • Pursuing Rayan Moore
  • Tripatriate Union’s Feud
  • Finding Fairy
  • Report from the New World
  • Ring of the Wise King
  • Two Tribes
  • Guardian of Yggdrasil

Cast:
Angel_Fist a Champion – main MVP killer and mob control
Herbie Boy a High Priest – main support

How to get there:
After performing all the prerequisite quests listed above proceed to the splendid map where the Yggdrasil tree can be located. From Midcamp find the guard that will allow you to explore the left side of the camp. On that field exit on the top portal and arrived at the map where the entrance to the Yggdrasil Dungeon is found. On the right side part of the map locate huge roots on big rocks and it will lead you to the entrance to the Yggdrasil roots.

Enter the dungeon by directly walking between the big roots with web then a pop up message will appear. Choose enter the dungeon to be able to proceed inside the Yggdrasil Dungeon. Be cautious on your exploration especially in encountering with the monsters Duneyrr and Rata. Both monsters are powerful that is enough to knock you down. Inside the Yggdrasil Dungeon proceed to the second level by moving straight to the right portal of the first level.

The second level of the Yggdrassil Dungeon is a safe zone because of the absence of aggressive monsters. As you walk into the depths of the dungeon you will encounter a dead end with a Storage Device. The Storage Device is used to create an invisible bridge that will help you cross unto the other side of the dungeon. Switch the device on and a plate-like lighted pathway appears one after the other for you to cross. If by chance you fall off the narrow pathway you will find yourself wandering on the first level of the dungeon. All you have to do is to go back and try crossing the pathway again.

Note: During our quest the switch text option is poorly translated so it appears to have a garbage text. Select the first option to proceed.

Once you have successfully cross the lighted path, navigate your way into the depths of the roots until you reach the Gate of Riddle. On the way, you might encounter an aggressive Dandelion Ran Away but he’s not a threat. I think he’s part of a quest but I don’t know that specific quest he belongs to. Although he’s an annoyance, you’ll notice that he has a very high HP once you start attacking him.

The Gate of Riddle is the doorway to Nidhoggur’s Nest Instance Dungeon. Provided that you already have the access to the dungeon, trigger the creation of the instance by accepting the mission to stop Nidhoggur’s Shadow from gnawing the roots of Yggdrasil. Upon creation, your party will have 2.5 hours to complete the mission. When the instance is ready, the party members can now enter the dungeon just like a a normal dungeon.

Quest Proper:
First Maze:
The first maze is easy in terms of navigation. The fairy theme lighting effect on the first maze is a helpful guide in determining the passable and impassable terrains. Although on the first try you might be confused on the mini maze but you will still end up into the large room of the first maze. Be warned with the Ancient Tree because it has a high damage which might one hit kill or two hit kill you. Also be warned with the Aqua Elemental that might froze your character and you will be susceptible to mob attacks. Evading these monsters might help but killing some of them will be a better option. Wearing status armor will also help but it does not guaranty your safety inside the dungeon. Using hiding skills like Cloak, Tunnel Drive and similar skills helps because the dungeon doesn’t have a monster which could detect hiding characters.

After navigating out of the short maze, you will end up into a huge room as I have mentioned earlier. From the gateway of the huge room, walk forward until you reach a small patch of land surrounded by water with a small fairy in the middle. Talk to the Fairy and she will warn you not to proceed and explain the situation.

Warning: Try not to hurry in talking to the fairy because there is a pop up message that will appear when you get too close with the fairy. Avoid dying while talking with the fairy because it will cause your disconnection from the game. Clear the mobs before talking to her or use any hiding skill before talking to her. You cannot re-enter the dungeon upon disconnection. This will be considered a failed instance for you if have been disconnected but your party mates will be able to continue the instance. You will wait for 3 days to be able to create another instance for this dungeon.

After talking to the fairy, 12 Mydhorg’s Guardians will appear to defend their master. You need to eliminate them all in order to proceed deeper into the dungeon. The “Mydhorg’s Guardians” has the appearance of either a Phylla or Ryncho. The easiest way to scout for these monsters is the area around the fairy. Other guardians are scattered away but are still contained inside the huge room. We need a lot of patience in scouting for the guardians and to finish this task.

When all the Mydhorg’s Guardians were defeated, a portal at the top part of the huge room appears. The portal is hidden behind the water falls so it will be easy for your party to spot. The portal will now lead you to the second maze of the dungeon.

Second Maze:
The second maze doesn’t have a special task to perform. All you need to do is to find your way out of the long, winding and confusing maze. The mini-map will not help you in this task because the map is hidden. Just don’t let your guard down especially in facing with the Dark Shadow. With a handful of patience and perseverance you will be able to get out of the maze alive.

At the end of the maze approximately at the top center, there is a square platform with a bizarre coloring. The platform will be the trigger in sending you to the Boss Room where you will face Nidhoggur’s Shadow.

Boss Room:
The Battle with Nidhoggur’s Shadow starts when your party step out of the spawn point inside the boss room. Nidhoggur’s Shadow spawns at the middle of the room and your team must defeat him in order to stop him in gnawing the roots of Yggdrasil.

The task of your party is to defeat Nidhoggur’s Shadow by any means. As for our case, we use hit and run to inflict a large damage while evading deadly attacks from the boss and his slaves. Angel releases her Extrimity Fist towards the MVP but in return she will be attacked and die. I on the other hand Resurrect her while trying to keep my distance from being detected by Nidhoggur’s Shadow and his minions. We try to evade the pursuit attacks of the MVP as we attempt to escape and rebuff. After rebuff we go back and hit him hard again. Then we repeat the technique until he dies.

The battle with Nidhoggur’s Shadow is not a plain MVP killing. Every 3mins, the party is warped into one of the four different colored rooms. Each room inflicts status ailments to all members regardless of status resistance and immunity. Inside the room, you have to defeat 3 Ryncho and 2 Phylla in order to escape and return to the battle with Nidhoggur’s Shadow. Be careful not to let any monster stray away from the room because your party cannot proceed until all of the monsters were defeated.

The Red Room located at the southwest part of the room reduces your HP by 75% and inflicts Bleeding Status Ailment. You need healing item in order to survive this room. The bleeding status ailment is not problem as long as you spam hp potions.

The Blue Room located at the northwest part of the room reduces your HP by 50% and inflicts Frozen Status Ailment. In this room, wait for the monsters to attack you in order to break the frozen status and spam hp potions. If you are a priest class, use Status Recovery on frozen members to free them while healing yourself.

The Yellow Room located at the southeast part of the room reduces your SP by 50% and inflicts Sleep and Chaos Status Ailment. Just like the Blue room, wait for the monsters to break the sleep status then use Cure (if you have) to free yourself from chaos status. If you are a priest class, use Status Recovery followed by Cure on the members to free them from both status ailment. Using sp potions is optional because the remaining 50% of your sp is still enough for the rest of the battles.

The Green Room located at the northeast part of the room reduces both your HP and SP to 25% and 50% respectively and inflicts Poison Status Ailment. The poison status ailment is not deadly so just spam hp and sp pots to counter the effects of the status. The poison prevents regeneration so regaining hp and sp through potions is a work around for this.

After the corner room battles, you need to hurry find Nidhoggur’s Shadow at the center of the boss room. Try to find him as fast as you can to prevent him from casting his long and desperate Full Heal with a 2 minute casting time. If he is successful in using the skill, it’s like your party is starting all over again in the battle so try not to let him have a successful Full Heal. When you finally defeated Nidhoggur’s Shadow, enjoy the loot drop that is worth the long quest and hard battle.

A fairy will appear at the center of the room and she will conclude the instance story. To exit the map, talk to the fairy and she will warp you in front of the Gate of Riddle. You may also choose to use your own warp portal to exit and it doesn’t have any effect in the instance dungeon.

The Analysis:
The getting to know stage of Nidhoggur’s Nest Instance dungeon is very bloody. You will experience countless deaths and burn a lot of resources. We have an item called Token of Ziegfried which instantly Resurrects your character when you wish to which helped us a lot in our battles with Nidhoggur’s Shadow. Nidhoggur’s Shadow is packed with very powerful skills combined with powerful normal attack and monstrous Dark Shadow mob. The set up looks difficult however Nidhoggur’s Shadow has a slow move speed and slow casting which might be used to our advantage. We used hit and run method to avoid the powerful attacks of the MVP. When he casts a long and painful skill we hit him hard because at this moment he is vulnerable then run again. Once you have been accustomed with the mechanics of the dungeon, killing Nidhoggur’s Shadow is easy.

I would like to give credits to the guide I used in determining the exact penalty received from the corner rooms at the boss area which is found at iROwiki site.
