Midgard Crowd Control Quest – Ice Dungeon

Note: The quest has been implemented from May 19, 2010 to June 9, 2010

Overview:
The trend for Midgard Crowd Control Quest became popular for pRO. The quest is very interesting because it promotes party play regardless of level and job class. The quest is also rewarding because for every 150 kills on a specific monster you can redeem a Mercenary Badge. These Mercenary Badges can be earned and exchange with Siege Headgears. For more information regarding the quest please refer to the Ragnaboards site.

Previous Events:
The Ice Dungeon Crowd Control is the second come back of the Crowd Control Quest. Previously, the quest has been set in Glast Heim Prison where in players must kill 150 Zombie Prisoners to redeem Mercenary Badges. Visit the link below for the complete story on that event.

Quest Proper:
To start the quest, locate the [Quest] Elite Mercenary at any selected city around Midgard. The NPC resembles a Paladin seeking for seasoned adventurers who will help in reducing the number of monsters in Ice Dungeon.

The [Quest] Elite Mercenary will try convincing adventurers like you to join and discuss the rewards that can be acquired. Once you have agreed he will warp you at level 3 of the Ice Dungeon. At the third level of Ice Dungeon, [Quest] Mercenary Scout will be waiting for adventurers who are willing to take the challenge and she will explain the details of the mission. She’ll inform the adventurer that every 150 Ice Titans defeated she will be awarding them with a Mercenary Badge and a Yggdrasil Berry.

After receiving the quest, open your quest window to confirm that the quest has been received. Starting at this moment every Ice Titan killed will be added to your kill count on the quest window.

The first thing to do on this quest is to find party that will help you in gaining kill counts faster. Scouting for party will not work for this Crowd Control Quest because adventurers tend to move around rather than to spawn camp. The best way to gain a party is to create a pub near the [Quest] Mercenary Scout and wait for party invites. Parties tend to return go back there whenever they will redeem their badges.

A good party for the quest must have a Priest or High Priest and a fast killer preferably a Wizard of High Wizard. The Assumptio of a High Priest could nullify the Frost Driver from the Ice Titans that saves the party from getting frozen. Spawn Camping for this quest is not advisable because the spawn of Ice Titans is not that fast as compared with the Zombie Prisoners at Glast Heim Prison. Moving around and killing is the best way to do the quest.

The quest is not that all easy because the third level of the Ice Dungeon is the home of Ktullanux. He’s very slow in terms of move speed but he has a very high attack coupled with freezing skills like Area Freeze and Storm Gust. Normally, Ktullanux do not spawn on the map but he’ll spawn at the middle part of Ice Dungeon level 3 when summoned thru the Ice Necklace Quest. The Ktullanux during the quest duration is summoned by an unknown reason.

After gaining 150 kill counts from Ice Titans return to [Quest] Mercenary Scout to redeem a Mercenary Badge, an Yggdrasil Berry and a complete food buff. For premium users, they have the privileged to receive 2 Mercenary Badge, 2 Yggdrasil Berry and a complete food buff. Talk to the NPC again to receive another round of Ice Titan killing quest however the quest can only be performed 20 times. The [Quest] Mercenary Scout will not allow you to go beyond 20 times even if you try to.

Rewards:
The rewards for this quest are the same as the previous Midgard Crowd Control Quest. After claiming all your Mercenary Badges, go back to the town and and meet the [Quest] Elite Mercenary again. He will then present you with the list of available siege headgears that could be acquired. The prizes are divided into Upper Headgears and Mid Headgears. The Upper Headgear has a common description of reducing Demi-Human attacks by 10% while the Mid Headgears has the common description of reducing Demi-human attacks by 2%.

Headgears
Exchange 10 Mercenary Badges for Siege Sakkat

Exchange 10 Mercenary Badges for Siege Big Sis Ribbon

Exchange 20 Mercenary Badges for Siege Vane Hairpin

Exchange 20 Mercenary Badges for Siege Sunday Hat

Exchange 40 Mercenary Badges for Siege Boy’s Cap

Mid gear

I tried to finish all headgears for this quest but due to time constraint I failed to get Siege Tiara (40 badges). However I was able to add Siege Crown and Siege Big Sis Ribbon on my collection of Siege Gears.

Comments:
The comeback of Crowd Control is very much welcome. I love this quest because it brings back the essence of party system. The Ice Dungeon version seems appealing at first but on the actual it’s harder than the Glast Heim Prison. Even if the duration for this quest is extended up to 3 weeks, earning Mercenary Badges is harder. Killing Ice Titans is tedious and the spawn is not that fast as compared with the Zombie Prisoners. It took me around 3 days addict mode in order to complete 1 character as compared with the previous one that took me only a day just to finish 1 character. As a whole, the quest is hard but worth the time partying and meeting new friends.
