Banker

Overview:
Ragnarok online has an in-game currency called zeny which is a vital component on trading goods and services. Each player has a capacity of approximately 2.1 billion zeny. The capacity is high enough that it is assumed that it will not go beyond that value. However as time goes by, servers were able to pile up a lot of zeny that most players have reached this limit.

How the problem started:
When inflation starts to plague a server, naturally most of the players will be able to acquire more zeny in a shorter period of time. The amount of zeny starts to accumulate and hit the maximum capacity of a character. As the value of zeny goes up the value of items goes higher too. Soon after the problem on trading started to surface.

All high end items are no longer vendable because the maximum capacity of vending is only 99 million. Most of these items has values starting from 100 million zeny up. Players then resort to pub selling which somewhat solved a portion of the trade problem from vending but it also has its limits. Pub selling is limited to the amount that a character can handle which is approximately 2.1 billion.

Trading higher valued items ranging from 2.2 billion up is very hard. Some players now prefers to sell these items through meeting up in person then trading. The meet up trading takes a lot of time and effort so players then device a scheme for in-game trading. That is where the so called midman is born.

A midman is a player with a high reputation in the community and is assumed to be honest. When two players trade a high value item they first look for a midman. For example the player will be buying a Kiel Card worth 6 billion zeny. The player who is selling the item will be giving the item to the midman. The player who will be purchasing the item will also give the zeny to the midman.  Since the maximum zeny is only 2.1 billion, the trading will be in 3 parts. Both players will be using 3 characters each. These characters are often called as zeny holders. The first character of the buyer will then give the 2 billion to the midman. The midman will then give the zeny to the first character of the seller. The transaction will continue until the 6 billion zeny is traded successfuly. After that the midman will then give the item to the buyer. Some midman asks for service fee while some don't.

The problem on this kind of trading is when the midman abuse the thrust of the traders and take the items traded to them. There are also cases that posers pretends to be one of the trusted midman and scams traders.


Updates:

• On March 26, 2014 patchnotes, the service of banker to convert zeny to voucher has been disabled and the service to convert voucher to zeny will be disabled on October 29, 2014.

How to Use the feature:
Find your way to Prontera Fountain located at the middle of the city. Enter the building at the lower left from the fountain.

Locate Banker, the NPC that resembles an old man.

Talk to him and you will have the option to either deposit or withdraw money.

Deposit Money:
To deposit money see to it that you have at least 1 billion zeny. Talk to banker then choose the option Depost 1B zeny. Congratulations you now received 1 Vasilos Voucher!

Withdraw Money:
To withdraw money see to it that you have at least 1 Vasilos Voucher with you. Talk to banker then choose the option Withdraw 1B Zeny. Congratulations you now recieved 1 billion zeny!

Before withdrawing see to it that you don't reach the maximum amount of zeny when you withdraw from the Banker. When you do so, all overflow zeny will disappear and there is no way of taking it back.

The role of Banker really shed a light on the trading on inflated servers like ours.

Comments:
The feature is a very convenient way for inflated servers like pRO Valkyrie to have an easy way of trading zeny to high priced items. It allows players to easily trade billions of zenny without resorting to what they call a midman transaction.
