Midgard Crowd Control Quest – Clock Tower

Note: The quest has been implemented from July 28, 2010 to August 11, 2010

Overview:
Another Crowd Control event has been implemented in pRO! We’ve been through the freaky Glast Heim Prison, freezing Ice Dungeon, scary Sphinx Dungeon and now it’s time for the Clock Tower. The Clock Tower version is a big surprise to us because it has been directly implemented in the commercial servers. The quest will be the fourth comeback and the new location is new challenge for us. The crowd control quests provide siege headgears in which its attributes were reduction from demi human characters. For the complete details regarding this crowd control kindly visit the Ragnaboards site.

Previous Events:
Midgard Crowd Control Event is now a popular event on pRO. The Clock Tower version is the fourth time implementation of the event on pRO servers. The first crowd control targets Zombie Prisoners in Glast Heim Prison. The second time targets Ice Titans at Ice Dungeon. And the third variation targets Anubis at Sphinx. For the complete story of the events please visit the journal links below.

Quest Proper:
To start the quest, locate [Quest] Elite Mercenary at any selected city around Midgard. The selected cities were Payon, Alberta, Geffen, Prontera and Orc Village. Please refer to my previous crowd control for the exact location of some crowd control NPCs. When you talk to the [Quest] Elite Mercenary he will convince you to join the fight against monsters in Clock Tower. Once you have agreed, he will then warp you directly to the third level of Clock Tower.

At the third level, [Quest] Mercenary Scout is waiting for recruited adventurers. She will be assigning the mission of reduce the growing population of Alarms. The [Quest] Mercenary Scout will be awarding the adventurer with a Mercenary Badge and an Yggdrasil Berry for every 100 Alarms killed. However Premium Service users will have the luxury of receiving two times the reward.

After receiving the mission, open the quest window using the shortcut keys Alt + U. Find the Midgard Crowd Control Quest then open the quest log. Starting from this point, every Alarms killed will be added to the kill count on the quest window.

Crowd Control Quest encourages party play so the best thing to do is to find a competent party. Most of the players are already aware of the shared kill count for parties so most adventurers are waiting for parties near the Mercenary Scout.

During the first week of the event, adventurers who want to participate on the crowd control flood the area near the Mercenary Scout to look for available party. Acquiring a party is easy, either you look for party spots and ask to join them or create a pub looking for party near the spawn area for recruits. As I have observed, the participants varies from non-transcendent to transcendent players. The level does not matter also because there are a lot of level 99 players as well as low-level players participating the quest.

Kill stealing is not an issue for crowd control because most adventurers were aiming for the fast kill count. Everyone aims for the last hit to increase the party’s kill count. One hit kill skills are favorable to the party because it ensures a sure kill count. The ambiance during the quest is like the old school leveling in clock towers where everyone is grinding for precious experience. But of course at present time everyone is aiming for the badges and for some aims for experience as well.

One of the techniques of increasing kill count is locating a strategic spot where your party could stay in place. The party basically stays on a spot waiting for monster spawns while some members such as Knights, Crusaders and Blacksmiths lures mobs into the selected spot. The mobbing technique ensures bulk kill counts and the party will surely be happy. The advantage of staying on a spot is gaining advantage from Bard's songs and Dancer’s dances and a chance to AFK for a while.

The other technique is killing while walking. The party is required to continuously move as one and search for mob areas. The method needs focus because as much as possible you need to be near the killer on the team to register a valid kill. Straying far enough from the killer will not give a valid kill for you. The advantage of this technique is getting kill counts from mob areas that are hard to reached by parties with spot area. Also, the active walking ensures that all players are working hard for the party.

After successfully gaining 100 kill counts from the Alarms, Return to the [Quest] Mercenary Scout to redeem a Mercenary Badge and an Yggdrasil Berry. As I have mentioned earlier Premium users will have a double reward so they will be rewarded with 2 Mercenary Badge and 2 Yggdrasil Berry. The redemption of rewards is limited only to 20 times. Beyond that the Mercenary Scout will no longer allow you to participate.

Previous crowd control quests provides complete food buffs per redeem of badges and in effect players received a free full hp and sp heal . For this quest, a new buff has been introduced with a red icon having a picture of a heart and an arrow on top. As observed the new buff greatly increases the hp regeneration of players even if they are overweight. The buff disappears upon death and has a duration of less than 30minutes. The new buff is good but food buff is better.

Rewards:
The rewards for this quest are the same as the previous Midgard Crowd Control Quest. After claiming all your Mercenary Badges, go back to the town and and meet the [Quest] Elite Mercenary again. He will then present you with the list of available siege headgears that could be acquired. The prizes are divided into Upper Headgears and Mid Headgears. The Upper Headgear has a common description of reducing Demi-Human attacks by 10% while the Mid Headgears has the common description of reducing Demi-human attacks by 2%.

For the fourth phase of crowd control they have added four new headgears namely Siege Army Cap, Siege Kafra Band, Siege Sweet Gent and Siege Zoro Mask. As for my collection, I acquired three new gears but I failed to get the Siege Sweet Gent. I hope that there will be another phase for this with added gears. I also hope that they will consider adding Siege Masks like Siege Smiley Mask.

Comments:
The Clock Tower Crowd Control Quest is the fourth variation of Crowd Control for pRO. This crowd control caught us by surprise because it has been directly implemented on the main servers without any patch notes indicating that it has been implemented in Sakray. Still, Its good to know that the GMs had plans of continuously implementing this event that promotes random party play for both veterans and newbies. There was no discrimination in getting a party for this quest because every participant aims to gain maximum kill count. As they say more party mates means faster kill count. I’m happy that they again lowered the required kill count to 100 from the standard 150 considering that the Alarms were a neutral property. Neutral property doesn’t gain any element advantage so one hit killing is limited to burst damage skills.

The additional headgears were great addition that attracts most of the players who already gained a lot of headgears in the past crowd controls. From what I observed and heard, the popular Siege headgears aimed by adventurers were Siege Sakkat, Siege Sunday Hat, Siege Boy’s Cap and Siege Elven Ears. And for the additional headgears the Siege Kafra Band gained an instant popularity.

Alarms as the new target for this quest is really great. I’m glad to know that the GM’s were going back to the old school maps and honestly it flashed a lot of memories. I reviewed my previous post and comments from the Sphinx version and I’m happy that they have considered my suggestion of choosing a target where non-transcendent classes could participate effectively. True enough while doing the quest I had a lot of non-transcendent party mates. The only thing that I didn’t like for the quest is the second week of the quest where they implemented an experience modification. As a result, most players were focused on power leveling rather than participating in the quest. Gaining party on the second week is hard and there were few signs of adventurers doing the quest. I just hope that next time the GMs will take into consideration of the event overlapping.

I think I made a very long comment this time. See you on the next crowd control.
