Ranger Job Change Experience

Overview:

Rangers are the 3rd jobs for Hunters and Snipers. Their role still revolves on using bows for their long-range advantage and improved traps. They have been given an alternative-fighting pal called Warg. They can freely choose between using a Falcon or Warg. Their traps have been improved with a more reliable damage and synchronize activation using Detonator. Their arrow-based skills has also been enhanced with Aimed Bolt, Arrow Storm and Fear Breeze.

Turned into a Ranger after a hard job change exam

Foreword:

This is not a job change guide. I’m making this write up to relay my personal experience with the job change for Rangers. I may not be able to give the step by step procedure of the job change but I will relay some tips on the do’s and don’ts for the job change. The guide I used for the Job change is found at iRO wiki site.

My Story:

My adventure of becoming a Ranger starts at the Turtle Islands. In order to reach the Turtle Islands you must first perform the Turtle Islands Entrance Quest. Upon arriving at the Turtle Islands, you will immediately notice the Survival Instructor. He will be your gateway in changing into Ranger.

Survival Instructor Rescue will be your key in becoming a Ranger

Talk to the Survival Instructor Rescue and tell him you want to become a Ranger. He’ll instruct you to remove all your equipments and make your weight to 0%. He’ll warp you back to Alberta and do what is instructed to you. Go back to the Survival Instructor and he’ll give you a mission to reach Test Instructor Teardrop. Teardrop is located at the upper left part of Turtle Islands. Then he’ll provide a Bow, 500 Arrows and 10 Novice Fly Wings.

Test Instructor Teardrop will be responsible in taking you to the exam waiting area

When you finally reach Test Instructor Teardrop remove all excess items like loots and arrows leaving only your Bow and items that are account bound. Talk to him and choose “I came here for the test”. Then he’ll be giving you a mission to kill 1 Dragon Tail and return 1 Wing of Dragon Fly.

When you finished the simple mission given he’ll bring you to the Examination Waiting Area. Enter the pub of Practical Test Waiting and wait for your turn to be warped on the exam area.

When you have been warped into the exam area you will undergo 3 types of exam. You’ll be taking these exams continuously and you need to succeed each exam in order to be changed to Ranger.

Test of Accuracy

You will be placed on a center island and surrounding you is 8 small islands where a poring type monster spawns. Your task is to kill the monster with the name “Poring” before the time runs out. The passing score is 15 out of 20.

To help you determine the Poring’s location you need to look at the north island.

• If the spawned monster is Poring, just hit it
• If it’s named Podaegi, the Poring is on the northeast island
• If Poporing, hit east
• If Poja, hit south east
• If Pororing, hit south
• If Drops, hit southwest
• If Hoing, hit west
• If Poing, hit northwest

I consider this exam as the hardest of the three exams so it is important to memorize the monster locations for easier passing.

Trapping Ability Test

On this exam you will be warped into a map where plant monster will spawn. Stay on your on your position until you see Staff Rust spawns near your position. This means that the plants for the exam have spawned too.

Wait for Staff Rust to appear before moving

Use Windwalk or Increase Agility Scroll first before you proceed with the exam to help you with navigation. Talk to Staff Rust and he’ll give you 10 Bombrings, 100 Novice Potions and Bulky Reports, which will make your weight to 90%. Even if you have an Increased Weight Limit from Gym Pass he’ll still give you enough Bulky Reports to make your weight to 90%.

Use the Bombring Capsule to summon a Bombporing. These Bombporings will attack you one time and after 3 seconds it will explode. Use them to clear the plants that hinder your way to the end of the exam area. Be careful not to be caught with the explosion from the Bombrings. It can kill you and once your dead you’ll repeat the exam from the start.

At the middle of the path there is a healing station where in if you pass that area you will be partially healed. Repeat passing through the area until your health is at full. The Novice Potion they provided will not help you regain health that you need so this is the easiest option to replenish your health.

When you reach the edge of the map see to it that all Bombrings are used up. Talk to Test Supervisor Kowsyun and deliver the Bulky Reports. Bear in mind to walk slowly as you approach Kowsyun because there will be a pop up window that might cause disconnection if you rush.

Using a Wolf Companion

When you reach this point, see to it that your Mercenary AI is with the default option. If your using a customized AI type /merai to toggle it to default mode. Now talk to Test Supervisor Freeze to proceed with the exam.

He’ll give instructions for the third exam and hand you with a Job Change Flute. Use the flute to summon a Baby Desert Wolf mercenary.

Once you summoned the mercenary you will be in put in a Stone Cursed effect. There will be 20 Egg Bombs that will spawn on the map. Command your mercenary by using Ctrl + Left mouse click and attack these Egg Bombs. You need to defuse 10 out of 20 bombs to pass the exam. The mercenary is strong enough to one shot these Egg Bombs but sometimes he’ll miss too. Be patient in commanding the puppy.

When you failed on one exam you will be warped outside. You need to reduce your weight to 0% again to be allowed by Teardrop to enter the examination area. He’ll give you additional arrows once he warps you to the examination area.

But if you pass all exam you’ll be transferred to a room where you’ll meet the Ranger Master. Talk to him and he’ll change you to a Ranger. Congratulations!

Ranger Master will be changing you into a Ranger

As part of your job change you will be rewarded with a Wolf Flute, a Ranger exclusive headgear Sniper Goggle [1] and a third job exclusive accessory Green Apple.

Comments:

The Ranger Job change is one of the hardest job change exam that I have undertaken so far. I have failed this exam a lot of times for the first part, a couple of times on the second part and a bunch on the third exam. What makes this job change hard is the fact that you still need to memorize the Poring positions for the first part, avoid flinching on the second part and using mercenary commands for the third part. But overall I’m happy with the flow of the exam because it proves that the job change has been well thought of. I have no complaints with this job change because it should be hard enough to prove your worth of changing into a more advance class.

Addendum:

For Trapping Ability Test, you can choose not to talk with Staff Rust but to clear the path first using Double Strafe and Falcon Assault. When the mob is cleared until the end of the path go back and talk to Staff Rust and receive the test items. Consume all the bombs on a spacious area and avoid the blast from the Bombporing. Finally talk to Test Supervisor Kowsyun and deliver the Bulky Reports.
